I have followed it obsessively, however, and have only been prodded to comment by today's big headline of the publication of Scott McClellen's tell-all "expose" of the lies that the Bush Administration fed to the American people in order to advance their agenda in Iraq.

Now, Obama has already commented on his willingness to open an investigation onto potential criminality and wrongdoing on the part of Dubya and his evil-hick-cabal if elected President. However, we have to take that with a massive grain of salt because in the same breath that he speaks of justice, he utterly pussies out on impeachment (a power that he has RIGHT NOW as a member of the Senate).

"You know, I often get questions about impeachment at town hall meetings and I've said that is not something I think would be fruitful to pursue because I think that impeachment is something that should be reserved for exceptional circumstances," Obama was quoted in mid-April.

I just have to say that this is why Democrats lose: starting a war on false pretenses and approving torture is not exceptional enough for Democrats, getting a hummer from an intern was enough for Republicans to dismantle the most popular Presidency in recent history. This is because Republicans play for keeps and Democrats have no balls. It is this essential lack of balls, and the lack of will to play hard-ball against their political enemies that makes the Democratic Party a shaky bet on the best election day.

However, we must take heart, because there is the chance that Obama is merely dancing the "election trail" shuffle. I think he means what he says when he suggests that no one is above the law. And I know in my heart that he feels no kinship or sense of loyalty to these scum who have befouled the White House for the last seven and a half years. Could he prosecute them successfully? Would they pay to have him murdered the way their fathers did with Kennedy? Would the VP silently give the conspirators a nudge and wink, in order to pursue their own agenda the way LBJ did?

Clinton's recent mentioning of RFK's assassination should have been enough to discount her from any VP consideration, not to mention the baggage (political, emotional, and legal) that Hillary brings in tow. Yet, there are still some who insist that this Obama-Clinton "dream ticket" is the only way that the Democrats can unite to defeat the Republicans. When 57% of Clinton's supporters say they will not vote for Obama, it would seem that the Democrats have found a way to lose it again, before the real game has even begun.

With that said, Obama's comments regarding a willingness to investigate and prosecute has met its mark with me. It will likely not be quite as lively as the reinstituting of the guillotine fantasies that I indulge so often when I read the news and despair, but it is probably enough to make me want to stay in the country another four years just to get front row seats on the show-trials and public humiliation that these evil fucking fuckers--Dubya, Cheney, Rumsfeld, all of them--deserve.

So there it is. I'm going to vote.

Obamarama '08!

What choice?

"I was pleased to see... no policy changes to the Petraeus plan," said Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell.

Is this why the Democrats were elected? We knew that they wouldn't impeach Dubya. We knew they would get down on their knees for big business. We knew they were just as capable of corruption as the Republicans. However, they SAID they would start evidencing a little opposition to Dubya's military adventures.

No policy changes at all to the Petraeus plan is not opposition. Petraeus was propped up before congress in order to give a military voice to Dubya's ideological position on Iraq. There are far more former-generals who have decried this clusterfuck in Mesopotamia; Petaeus was chosen for the job of spokesman based on the congruence between his delusions and Dubya's.

Stay the course. The Surge is working. Keep sending the money. Stop asking questions about how we are spending the money.

What do we need a Democratic Party for if they aren't willing to offer some counter-proposals? If they all want to prounce about and declare Dubya's war illegal, then why are they funding it? Wouldn't that make them culpable? You bet your ass it makes them culpable.

And that is why the Democratic Party will not get my vote next November, no matter who their candidate is.

New Orleans Political (R)Evolution

I had recent occasion to meet with a number of New Orleans political dignitaries, office holders, office seekers and former office holders. It was a rare opportunity to gain insight into the dialogue of those who actually hold measures of real political power. I raised a number of issues with them, and to their credit, they were able to address many of my concerns with well thought out, well informed opinions. No solutions, mind you. But opinions and, more importantly, insight into the nature of the beast we live in sufference of.

New Orleans is fucked. It has always been fucked. From the earliest colonial settlers, murdering and raping indians to the Creole land owners with their wives and concubines. From Africans brought here in bondage to African-Americans kicked out of here by Hurricane Katrina and from Ray Nagin's Chocolate City to 27% African-American turnout in the last election, this place is fucked.

No one knows what to do about it either.

Conventional wisdom is always turned on its ear in New Orleans. The city is totally integrated, with multi-ethnic neighborhoods the norm. Yet, the images of suffering, poor (mostly) black people in front of the Ernest Morial Convention Center are certainly burned into the collective memory of everyone with access to television or the internet.

The port of New Orleans and the port of south Louisiana in the New Orleans suburb of LaPlace, combined form the largest port system on earth, in bulk tonnage. Yet, the City of New Orleans and the south-eastern corner of Louisiana benefits very little from this commerce, insofar as real wealth is concerned. Why? Comparatively few New Orleanians participate in the commerce of the port except in service capacities.

Violent crime is rampant in New Orleans. Governmental corruption and incompetence is a wild-fire, burning through political capital and imaginary federal dollars faster than a white rock in a brand new crack pipe. The DA's office has gotten its pants sued off after the last guy got caught with his pants down, firing 40 assistant District Attorneys because they were white.

Education in New Orleans is just as good (and bad) as it ever was. Politicians mouth off slogans about the lack of education being the root of all of New Orleans' ills, but a satisfactory abundance of the wrong types of education do no good to anyone.

These politicians I spoke with all understood that New Orleans' problems were systemic in nature. The problem with systemic problems is that systems in place are very loathe to change. Even following disaster and catastrophy, the old systems quickly reassemble and reassert themselves---Nagin was re-elcted, so was "Dollar" Bill Jefferson.

This resistance to change inherent to New Orleans' political culture is why New Orleans still experiences "old-west frontier-style" violence in its streets. People say that they have had enough, but people have always said that. Thou shalt not kill? Yeah-yeah, I've seen the billboard at the Claiborne on-ramp to I-10.

New Orleans will soon be called upon to make a choice. Behind door number 1 we have Neo-con wet dreams of Underreichfuhrers commanding permanent detachments of the National Guard to the streets of Central City and the Lower Ninth Ward. Behind door number 2 we have sustained Mad Max-style societal breakdown which will eventually break down into Neo-con wet dreams of Underreichsfuhrers commanding permanent detachments of the National Guard to the streets of New Orleans from the Jefferson Parish line to the St. Bernard Parish line in Arabi. Behind door number three is (R)Evolution.

This is awesome...

http://www.milkandcookies.com/link/64513/detail/

Gaze Upon The Face of Empire With Fear and Loathing and Despair

It seems that everywhere the British set up imperial shop during the 1800s is pretty well fucked up now. At best, India for example, things are just starting to get back on track after a good 200 years of tumult that, for a while, seemed to derail the better part of 3000 years of high culture and civilization. If you look around the world at the failed states that export nothing so much as despair you almost certainly see the Union Jack lingering somewhere in that nation's recent history.

In all fairness, the British didn't really know any better. Hey, they were new at the whole empire-thing and the way the history books of the Victorian era read, you would think that under the Romans, things prolly weren't so bad...unless you were a Gaul or a Jew and again, in all fairness, it was pretty crap to be a Jew irrespective of who was in charge. Babylonians, Egyptians, Romans: everybody got a piece of the Israelites. It was almost a prerequisite to being an Imperial State, terrorizing the Jews, that is...

Regardless, the British weren't Jews and I suppose that tromping across le monde, kicking people's asses and stealing their shit seemed like a pretty decent way to make a living until World War II changed all of that. Hitler was intent on building a great German empire though he never really got past the killing-the-Jews part of empire building, despite the honest college try he gave to Poland. After WWII though, the British saw their empire reduced to Scotland and Northern Ireland and as of this moment, Scotland has their Kingstone back and Gerry Adams is no longer given a Gizmo-the-Mowgwai voice on British TV.

The Brits were punted from Palestine. They were punted from South Africa. They were punted from India. They were punted from Iraq and Jordan. Australia, they were bunted; the same with Canada. When Maggie Thatcher gave the old Imperial flag one last wave at the Falkland Islands, it was like watching Danish historians sail the North Sea in reconstructed viking longboats. Today the Brits only remain politically relevant, globally, as the velvet glove covering the jail-house-tatooed hand of the United States.

It is a pity Americans don't like History the way the British do. This is a consequence of our pre-fab, planned communities: there is nothing in these places to link people with their past, so people willfully forget their own history. If Americans did enjoy history, they would take a cue from post-Victorian England and pay attention to the hard lessons the British learned about building and maintaining an empire.

General David Petraeus gave his testimony to Congress today regarding progress in Iraq in the wake of the 20,000-man strong troop surge ordered by Dubya after the Republicans lost Congress last November to Democrats who "promised" a change in the US' policy in Iraq. I don't think a troop surge was the change the American people were looking for, but the Democrats probably banked on their constituents being too chickenshit to take them to task for puss'ing out and, so far, it looks like they placed safe bets.

The surge is working he says. Nevermind that the death tolls today, as of this writing are comparable to the death tolls of October, 2003 (almost exactly four years ago), General Petraeus assures us that violence is down in Baghdad. Nevermind that insurgents in Baghdad have almost certainly skipped town to hide out and nevermind that just as sure as violence in Bahgdad is down, violence somewhere else in Iraq is up. General Petreaus is confident.

"It is possible to achieve our objectives in Iraq over time, although doing so will be neither quick, nor easy," he said.

"Over time" is the operative expression there: "over time." How much time? That, says the Bush Administration, is not a fair question as it presumes a lack of committment. Dubya has made it clear: we need to be ready to stay there til the job's done.

Well, here's the news: the job'll never be fucking done. Either we assume direct control of Iraq and conquer it, the way Anne Coulture says we should or we admit that we don't have the answer to the world's problems, we don't have the will (or the money) to throw away to make sure that oil companies can get their dope from Iraq's oil fields, and we cut our losses and split.

If we are going to split, then it makes very little difference if we leave tomorrow or three years from now...except for the accumulated body count.

If we are going to stay, then we must look at ourselves and ask some pretty hard questions: are we ready to see our fortunes decline and our empire fail the way Great Britain did? The way Napoleon's France did? The way Rome did?

George W. Bush: Irresponsible and Ignorant

So much going on...This summer, I went to Montreal for a week; scoping out a possible destination for emigration. I took my wife and daughter and a good time was had by all. I came back--back to the US, back to New Orleans--and now I am back at work, I am reading the news and the familiar feeling of rising bile is settling in again.

Last week, George W. Bush compared his failed campaign in Iraq to another failed military adventure in America's recent history: Vietnam. Suggesting that the problem with Vietnam was that America was winning until commies and faggots (I'm assuming) hoodwinked the American people into believing that we were losing that war, and thus precipitated a premature withdrawal that had disasterous consequences for the freedom-loving people of South Vietnam. Bush proceeds to warn against a similar scenario in Iraq.

John Kerry referred to Bush's comments as "irresponsible and ignorant."

Fuckin' way to go John!

It is about time John Kerry loosened up his patrician knickers and called that spade a spade. It's too bad he didn't feel confident to stick it to W like that when he was running against him in 2004.

Of course there are similarities between the wars in Vietnam and Iraq. In both instances, Americans found themselves fighting people who refused to play by their rules, who did not accept the superiority of American political ideals and who were willing to kill to safeguard their autonomy. In both instances, ignorant hicks from Texas (LBJ was a fuckin' yahoo too) brought our country into conflict with people whose culture we did not understand. In both instances, thousands of Americans had to die before the country was finally willing to step back and reevaluate.

Irresonsible and ignorant? Hell, that is only a best-case scenario...

Just a Comment on the present situation in Israel...

I haven't written in quite a while...

I was talking to an Israeli friend of mine recently who remarked that the present situation in Israel (that is, Israelis bombing the shit out of Gaza...again) and the coverage of that situation in western press (specifically the BBC and CNN) seems to be biased towards the Palestinians.

I was dumbfounded.

Because Hamas had been lobbing rockets into Israel for weeks without any western reporting of that situation, my friend asked me whether or not it was fair to interpret that as bias to the Palestinians since, now that Israel has decided to demonstrate the strength of its pimp-hand, the whole world has somehow refocused its attention.

This was my response:

What Israel does is more important than what Palestinians do. Americans have given Israel F-14s and shared nuclear technology. A few disgruntled Palestinians take it upon themselves to lob some rockets into Israel, it isn't news. Palestinians are always doing stuff like that, and what is more, they only rarely get caught on tape doing it due to the guerilla nature of their conflict.

Israel, on the other hand, has an actual army, a generally kick-@$$ army at that (last year in Lebanon was the first time the Israelis ever had to retreat without their objectives being met). When the Israeli army starts to move, it is BIG news because, generally, it means somebody is about to get F'edUBAR: some few thousand people are going to end up homeless, some few dozen 12 year olds will be shot by Israeli snipers for doing some $h!t that they shouldn't be doing etc etc...

For any side involved in that conflict to claim foul, favoritism or even (or especially) righteousness, is just absurd. There is so much blame to go around that getting into arguments over "who did what to who first" is simply same-old, same-old and thus not news at all. Israeli tanks revving those engines, burning diesel and lobbing American missles (that will have to be replaced by American workers in American facilities, thus translating into Israeli shekles turning into American dollars)---THAT'S NEWS, BABY!

Cha-ching! Cha-ching!

What is the US' interest in bringing that conflict to an end as long as those with the power (read: wealth) to influence policy there are making money off of ignorant Palestinians and paranoid-psychotic Israelis killing each other?

I know enough about the situation to have an opinion and my opinion is that it is just too bad that people can't just chill the fuck out and hang loose. It seems a much better way to spend time than killing people and attending funerals...

Why Should I Give a Shit?

Anna Nicole Smith has fled this mortal coil to take her place amongst the choir invisible. May the Lord take pity on her and grant her eternal rest.

I think that that is just about enough to say about Anna Nicole Smith on a day that boasted headlines like Hamas and Fatah agreeing to a unity government, Israelis and Palestinians hurting each other near the temple mount because of disagreements over archeological excavation, George W bracing for the stern talking to he is about to get from Congress when they debate the non-binding resolution criticizing his decision to deploy 21k more troops to Iraq (I can imagine Cheney yawning long and wide while Pelosi and crew waste their breath), and finally, in New Orleans, a story about a woman giving her 17 year old son a semi-automatic pistol and instructing him to assassinate a kid in the neighborhood who had bested him in a good, honest, fist-fight.

This is the world I live in.

Yet, CNN, the BBC, and all my other favorite haunts have big splash stories about Anna Nicole Smith and her impending autopsy. The exception, of course, to that rule was Al Jazeera which made me consider that the muslims definitely have good reasons for distrusting western "progress" and "journalistic freedom." No, Al Jazera's big story today had pictures of human beings being carried to safety from gun fights, people standing around in shock after having watched their buddies gunned down by their American "allies" and the burning aftermath of a rocket attack in a market in Mogadishu.

Yet, Anna Nicole is big news...

People wonder why American teenagers can't find Kashmir on a map but even when kids do attempt to indulge journalistic media, they are handed platters of shit, adorned with birthday candles. Anna Nicole Smith was a working class girl who shook her money maker for the right guy, in the right place and at the right time. In a way, she represents a good, old fashioned, working class hero in the sense of Liza, the Bowery Gal. Yet, in another more practical way, she represents just another distracting, bullshit, example of ADHD at work in the shaping of our cultural consciousness. Do I need to be kept abreast of the coroners reports on Anna Nicole Smith? No, I don't.

She died of complications due to her taking barbituates (or tranquilizers) and drinking alchohol. I haven't read the story, and in any event, the story on the autopsy findings haven't been released yet but, from what little I know of Anna Nicole Smith (I never paid attention when she was alive), she was known for popping pills and for going out in public drunk off her ass. The smart money says: pills and booze. You see, I fall guilty to the same impulse to indulge this bullshit distraction! I know there is more important stuff that I could be occupying myself with, that I SHOULD be occupying myself with but, no. Anna Nicole Smith...

Why? But, I don't write in over a month, the first time that I do write, I feel compelled to make snide comments about the strange quiet in the media with regards to American deaths in Iraq and the next day....WHAM!

http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/middle_east/6329353.stm

That is the cover story on the BBC for their "Americas" section on the news site that I have linked to the right for your convenience. Can I call 'em or what? The force is strong with me, if I do say so myself.

Let me say this: I love the BBC. I love the BBC because if you do a search for news stories on February 4, 2007 on CNN, Fox or ABC you will not find that story.

In contrast, Fox's top story is about the ruthless effectiveness of our allies in the middle east, the Israeli's (read: our team is better than their team).

http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,250196,00.html

CNN's top story is about Jesus-freaks in Florida praying over the wreckage of their church, destroyed in a freak touch down of tornados (read: only God can save us from the effects of climate change and the associate wrath-of-God-type weather we're about to get hit with since our environmental policy is being set by polluting corporations with more wealth than the Pope).

http://www.cnn.com/2007/US/02/04/florida.storm/index.html

ABC's top story is a feature on what a tough talking, logically minded, patriotic team player John McCain is. Let me say this about John McCain: once upon a time, McCain had an itsy-bitsy-teensy-weensie-bit of credibility with me...at least as much as John Kerry did. Then, McCain stated playing suck-up to the weirdo Christians because that's what the GOP electoral sorcerors told him he had to do in order to be competetive in the next Presidential election. At this point, more than anything else, McCain seems to be, in simplest terms, bought. He is not his own man anymore and you can tell.

http://abcnews.go.com/Politics/wireStory?id=2848376

McCain makes a good point: obstructing the President's agenda without a solid alternative is useless. And so our troops will continue to languish amidst a collective lack of imagination that illustrates that for however lame, ignorant and pathetic W and Co. might be, the democrats are equally, if not more, contemptible for offerring nothing more than a pretense of alternative and thus our erstwhile republic devolves into little more than bad theater.

Look at the Monkey; Look at the Silly Monkey

Why does military recruitment material these days look so much more like Tampon advertisements than calls to arms? Stemming the flow of the blood of patriots into the sand...hard work these days in Iraq, that model democracy that so recently proved to the world just how effective W and Co.'s policy adventures in the Middle East have been through its ability to have elections and prosecute, and ultimately hang, its former dictator, Sadam Hussein.

Yes, yes...very effective, indeed. Who even pays attention to the Iraqi sectarian violence body-count anymore? US war deaths have been described as being "around 3000" for a while now, but Iraqi deaths...why do I feel like it has to average around 50-70 or so a week? I admt, I don't really pay a lot of attention to the specifics of the Shia/Sunni grudge-slayings but I know in the countdown to Ashura, there was a lot of weird, apocalyptic-violence and what-not, including a guy who claimed to be the Mehdi (Islamic Messianic figure) getting gunned down by Sunni/Al-Queda type guys. But, I havent heard any reports of Americans getting whacked out lately.

Spring is already here in New Orleans. Last week there were a couple of days that I would describe as cold, but the week before that, there was one day that I think may have crept into the 80's. Flowers are starting to bloom, and I expect to have to run out and get a couple of summer shorts soon. Mardi Gras parades start this week, and tis the season for debutante balls and Senior Proms and for military recruiters to launch their predatory program for the duping of unsuspecting pre-college freshmen.

The military recruitment literature is covered with images of kids jumping high into the air; the sky, brushed beautifully with cirrus clouds, features prominently on the front cover of the little pamphlet. Compared to the Tom Clancy, sleek and slick shit they were passing out to kids at the end of the Cold War when I was a senior in high school, this recruitment material looks like they are trying to sell kids on an image of suburban recreation rather than a gritty truth of waking up every morning afraid of suicide bombing jihadis taking a massive shit in your morning cereal.

Showing the face of a guy on patrol in the Sunni Triangle with that look in his eye that lets you know that he is so fucking scared, that anything that moves suddenly, man, woman or child, is going to get all shot up...I guess that's not what they want the prospective recruit to focus on though. Look at the monkey, they say.

Look at the silly monkey.

We Are Not A Global Village

Neo-cons have been pandering to the President's inferiority complex for the entirety of his term of office, so far and that is why we are in the situation in Iraq that we are in now. To a small, brutish and stupid man, creatures of evil whispered sweet lies that played to his vanity. Like Satan in the garden, they spoke delusions of power to an animal without a conscience and looked on as that animal fell from grace. They took a semi-literate, 'tard and told him he could be Ceasar. And W believed it all. He wanted to believe it; he needed to believe it. And now? Now, he is just another mishapen grotesque, a sign of the end-times for those who know what to look for.

The Iraq Study Group is very clear in its conclusions after a deliberate and thoughtful study of the situation in Iraq. Keep in mind, these are not bleeding hearts, godless athiests, communists, homosexuals or trade unionists. They are not suggesting that men should be allowed to wear wedding dresses in Iraq, no. These are men who have served this country under some of the best evil emperors that we have seen in the last 100 years.

James Baker, that dispassionate capitalist, Bible-Thumper...no one would ever suspect he wore fishnets beneath his power-tie; he is a good man, a real man, a Reagan man.

"Get the fuck out now; we are losing," he says.

Very clear on that point, right there.

W has decided to ignore those guys in much the same way that he ignored the lunatic-fringe, far-left cabal who said, at the begining of the war:

"We shouldn't fuckin' go there; we're not going to be able to win, if we do."

And he is getting Amen's and Allelujah's from such distinguished, souless motherfuckers as William Kristol of The Weekly Standard who dismissed the findings immediately as "a disguised surrender."

It is funny the way guys who suck cock so regularly for the US military are quick to call "our boys" losers, don't you think?

There never was a realistic political solution to Iraq. From the begining, when asked, the Saudis suggested that they imagined Sadaam being replaced by another strongman who would most likely be chosen by the US but who, hopefully, would be able to keep the oil flowing and make sure the tribals didn't get too far out of line.

W hadn't hung the phone up from the call to put the bombers in the air before he was babbling, starry eyed as if drunk on Soma, about democracy and liberty and freedom in Iraq. Well George, now you see what these folks do with freedom, don't you? They take up arms against you, you evil little fuck, that's what they do.

In absence of a realistic political solution, the fighting there was never anything more than a goofy, Texas-style, attempt by a bullying, little rich kid to steal free-lunch vouchers from the poor kid from the other side of the world. If our military can't "win" there, it isn't because "our boys" can't kick ass.

To be sure, we have fucked up Iraq's infrastructure something fierce. They will be rebuilding for 50 years before they even begin to cover up some of the bloodstains we left there (and every kid born in Iraq for the next fifty years will learn in school how stupid, and evil the Americans are). No, we can't win there because the "idea guy" in the Oval Office didn't have a clue when he put our troops in harm's way to begin with.

How did the phone call go, I wonder? From Baker to Bush on the contents of the study before they released it to the public:

"In absence of any realistic, coherant plan...no Mr. President, I don't think Jesus wants you in Iraq either...I can only suggest that you pull up your pants and run now and wait to apply salve later; you are bleeding pretty bad down there and given its likelyhood to further, perhaps fatal, complications you are best advised to get the fuck out of dodge before you shit yourself in public again."

That's the problem with 'tards though, they don't mind shitting on themselves in public.

This is why, I must say, I cannot blame Iran for trying to develop their own Nuclear Bomb. Of course they say they aren't trying. Conservatives say they are lying and those conservatives are right; they are lying.

I don't blame Iran for lying either, though. W and friends lied about WMDs to justify invading Iraq. To date, no WMDS have been found.

Now, on the other hand, North Korea DEFINITELY has WMDs and is making sure everyone knows it. W isn't talking about invading North Korea though, is he? Fuck no he isn't.

..and the lesson was not lost on Wackjob-medinijad, the President of Iran.

You know, if we truly lived in a global village, a hegemony of small town values and common cultural inheritence, we would be fine. But we aren't; we are in a Global Cosmopolis with people from every walk of life. Rich, poor, christian, muslim, jew, shinto-buddhist, druse, satanist, wiccan, druid, what have you, they are all within a twelve hour plane ride into the side of a building anywhere in the world (look out, your town might be next).

There's a million sad stories in the city, it's a pity.

"Arm yourself," said the cop to me after coming home from Katrina. "And if you have to shoot someone, put a knife in his hand and drag his leg onto your property before you call us."

And that's the deal.

If I were the President of Iran, I would definitely be trying to build a fucking nuclear missle. And if anyone asked me why, I would tell them because I just watched my next door neighbor get punked by a sociopathic retard, covered in his own shit and I'll be damned if I'm going out like that.

It's hard living in the city.

This is why we shouldn't have gotten involved...

The Iraq Study Group has finally released its masterpiece of political theory, diligently hidden from public consumption until well after the mid-term elecetion...for all the good it did them. 'We aren't winning in Iraq' it says; so there you have it. We jumped into that situation on false pretenses, fucked it up and now we're losing. Who knew?

There are some people in faraway places like Iowa and Utah where that announcement will forever bear a psycho-spiritual association with the notion of the Democrats coming to power in congress. Some of them won't even understand what any of it means.

"What do you mean we're losing? We're losing? We can't be losing. We've got to be winning. Go America! Go, go, go!"

And then, by the time the republicans finally lose the presidency, and we are withdrawing from Iraq once and for all, whatever unlucky bastard has to follow this moron in a monkey suit that's presently peeling bananas in the oval office, will forever be associated with America's defeat in the middle east. Another terorrist attack will happen and in 20 years, W will be reinvented and mythologized the same way Reagan was.

So...America involved itself in the affairs of another country to suit our own imperial interests. Meanwhile, we have a jackass calling the shots back at HQ who orders Gi Joe to squat low and wide and wait for the kick in the balls. It's so funny...back when W took office, before 9/11, he was content to blow off all sorts of military intelligence sugesting that he should invest more into counter-intelligence, anti-terrorism special forces units and what have you and W figured that, as Comander in Chief, he knew better. He wanted to dump money into a new version of Star Wars. I suppose Reagan's buddies in the defense industry had to get their money back after taking the shot to the gut when Clinton took power and cut off the tap from the public trough that they had been suckling throughout the '80's.

So, in year 1 of W's tenure as Chief Executive village idiot, he pisses away a couple hundred million to those guys who paid for him to get elected to develop some tech that all scientists not on the project payroll agree will most likely not work the way it is marketed, if it works at all. Then 9/11. Then he orchestrates a doomed offensive in Afghanistan; a war ordered against a country that has already proven its ability to outlast anyone with the nerve to set foot on their soil with violent intentions. Did anyone even notice that there has been a new wave of violence in Afghanistan?

To cap it all off, he involves the US military in the largest clusterfuck, so far, in history. Waging war in Mesopotamia, the birthplace of civilization and fucking shit up like it has never been fucked up before.

The big rats have already jumped ship. Powell's gone. Rummys gone. The only one holding out is Condi and that's because she really believes that she got that job because she's the best qualified person for it (you see how pretensious-ass Stanford Education plays out in the real world outside of California?). Republicans, real republicans can smell a fucking loser from 100 yards and so George is spending an inordinate amount of time communicating over the phone these days as his party faithful proceed to avoid him like the fucking plague.

George, The Leper...that has a certain, satisfying ring to it. Perhaps that's how he will be remembered by history...

Big Deal

So, the gutless, spineless Democrats have taken congress. Woop-di-do...

In the darkest recesses of my paranoid mind, I suspect that this is yet another indulgence of the sham-theater of American politics where another flavor of criminal is brought out into the public eye in order to deflect attention from the straight up criminals that have worn out their welcome with the American people.

Everywhere you look, everyone is talking about nonsense, bullshit, bipartisan reach arounds. Is that how the Republicans reacted in 1994 when they swept Clinton's congress away in the Republican Revolution? No, it isn't. They went for broke: turning the clock back on health care reform, pursuing bullshit accusations of corruption that ultimately turned up nothing more than a blow job and a stained blue dress. How much money did they waste on Ken Starr's independant investigation of Clinton's backroom escapades with that chubby little felatrix? Too much is the correct answer, regardless of the figure.

Now, we find ourselves, as a nation, knee deep in some serious fucking trouble with massive deficits due to impact the fiscal security of our great-grandchildren, an unwinnable war in Asia and graft and back-handed payments to buddies of the vice president in a grand fiasco of corporate America suckling at the public tit. And the Democrats' response to this?

The new speaker of the House, Nancy Pelosi, said that the Democrats would govern with "integrity, civility, bipartisanship and fiscal responsibility."
http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/americas/6128474.stm

"We promise to be non-threatening and to play nice," is all they have to say?

Pussies...

11/09/06
New Orleans, LA

A Nation of Junkies

Last time I checked, there were an alarming number of evangelical christians participating in this mockery of participatory government that we have in the US. Given that the number of eligible voters who actually vote fluctuates somewhere between 30% and 45% of the available electorate and given that, of that number, at least 25% of them are evangelicals, it seems to me that these people have an alarmingly disproportionate influence on our nation's policy, foreign and domestic.

Marx called religion the opium of the people. However, this new brand of charismatic protestantism goes so much farther than that, it is ridiculous...How about "speedball of the people?"

When you consider the wrong-minded Calvinism that passes itself off as the "born again" movement and the associated notions that wealth/prosperity = the favour of God, you have to see the associated calls for the dismantling of the social safety net for what they are: the attempt of an extremely vocal, highly politicized minority to establish a theocracy in the United States. With the billions of dollars that this administration has passed off to "faith-based" community organizations, the stage is being set for an Hamas/Hezbollah-style scenario by which religious authoritarians end up providing social services that are much better managed and dispensed by secular institutions.

Think about it: no money for welfare, but plenty of cash for churches with soup kitchens. No money for childcare, but plenty of money for churches that provide after-school programs. No money for public education, but plenty of money for vouchers for parochial schools.

The Christian right is certainly one of the most sinister political cabals in the country right now. These are people who preach peace and love but who, ultimately, pray every day for Armageddon, an apocalyptic descent into violence. Normal, thinking, people cannot understand why the US supports Israel unconditionally...this is because the support that the US gives Israel has nothing to do with rational policy and everything to do with biblical interpretation that suggests that Jesus can't come again until all of the jews have taken all of the "promised land." These are people who believe in magic (creationism) and who detest the reason and rationale of educated people

These people have declared cultural war against the enlightenment-era principles upon which this country was founded. Their goal is to make the US a "Christian state," where religious tolerance can only apply to those whose brand of religious preference marches lock-step with their own twisted agenda of hetero-sexist, anti-semitic, racist and classist hate-mongering. Even the republicans know this, though in the relentless pursuit of money and power they are more than willing to pander to simpletons so long as they get to keep their jobs.

I was listening to Air America just a little while ago and apparently, there is a teach-in being held tomorrow at St. John the Divine in New York City at Amsterdam and 110th St. The subject being the danger posed to the secular state by religious wackos. If you are in New York, check it out.

10/29/06
New Orleans, LA

Pelosi Pledges: Impeachment off the Table

"Making them lame ducks is good enough for me," said Nancy Pelosi, when the question of impeachment was raised in a recent television interview.

These cruel, ignorant, wicked, little bottom-feeders who have plunged the world into chaos and made us, as a country, more hated, more likely to be bombed by psycho-muslims and more economically unstable than ever before in our history, are going to get off scott-free...and the democrats are not going to lift a finger to call these neo-con shit-heels to account for their treachery.

This, my friends, is why liberals suck ass.

This is why liberals are forever portrayed as feckless, spineless, cowards. This is why they are so often whiners instead of winners. This is why I have given up on the politics of the Democratic Party.

The American people have been lied to, we have been stolen from, and October saw us killed in record numbers in Iraq. If the Democrats fail to embody the vengeance of the people, then why should the people give their support to the democrats when what the people REALLY need right now, to feel better about themselves and their country, is vengeance?

Vengeance...vengeance for the lies...vengeance for stealing money from poor people...vengeance for pretending to love God...vengeance for the indiscriminate bombing...vengeance for the torture...vengeance for the child molestation...vengeance for the drugs (and the drug war)...vengeance for the hipocrisy.

I think I will vote Republican this time around...If people are not outraged enough, if making war criminals "lame ducks" is good enough for "the American Left", then things are obviously not bad enough yet. Another few years of Republican government might be what America needs to wake the fuck up...give the bastards a couple years more to sow their evil and to allow that evil to fester.

Soon, you will see haggard old wretches pushing wagons down Pennsylvania Blvd screaming "Bring out yer dead," and THEN, I believe, the matter will be well in hand.

Fuckers...evil fucking fuckers...

10/27/06
New Orleans, LA

Woe, woe, woe

Our civilization is in decay and we are left with little to do but await Odoacer to send our imperial seal to the east. Criminals and amoral grotesques lead our country to ruin and I don't even have a fiddle to play as the great city on the hill burns in the distance.

"Then I looked, and I heard an eagle crying with a loud voice as it flew directly overhead, "Woe, woe, woe to those who dwell on the earth..."

Would that it were so easy to believe that it will all truly be over soon.

"The end is near, stay positive!" says the fox, as the Mayan calendar draws to a close.

As pussies like Pelosi relinquish their courage in bullshit pledges to blunt their own swords, Grendle lurks in the darkness waiting to thrust good thanes and danes down his gullet.

When I was twenty years old, an old man said to me, "flee now; all is lost." At the time, I was content to stare, starry eyed and awe-struck at the hopelessness and decadence of it all, and now as I enter the long autumn of middle age, I am left with little besides rage at youth misspent and bags not packed...Had I had more presence of mind, I would have been a bit more Johnny-on-the-spot.
